Energy Regulation Conference Special Guest Seminar, Peter Havel, DVM, PhD

Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 4:00pm
Location: Orin Smith Auditorium, Administration Building, SLU

The Diabetes and Obesity Center of Excellence, in partnership with the Energy Regulation Conference, is pleased to announce a special presentation entitled "Endocrine effects of bariatric surgery and their potential role in improved glucose and lipid metabolism," by Peter Havel, DVM, PhD, Professor, Departments of Nutrition and Molecular Biosciences, October 28th at 4pm, in the Orin Smith Auditorium, Administration Building, South Lake Union Campus.  This talk is open to members of the research community.

Dr. Havel's research investigates the regulation of energy homeostasis and carbohydrate/lipid metabolism as well as the various endocrine systems' involvement in the pathophysiology of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. A major focus of his research is the interaction of diet composition (such as dietary fat and fructose) with the endocrine regulation of energy balance in the development and progression of obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia/atherosclerosis including studies in animal models and clinical studies in humans.
