The Diabetes & Obesity Center of Excellence, in partnership with the Energy Regulation Conference, is pleased to announce a special presentation entitled "Neuronal integration of peripheral signals in energy homeostasis ," by Jens Brüning, MD, Head, Department of Mouse Genetics and Metabolism Institute for Genetics, University of Cologne, Germany, November 30 at 4pm, in the Orin Smith Auditorium, Administration Building, South Lake Union Campus. This talk is open to members of the research community.
Aiming to characterize signaling pathways responsible for the regulation of energy and glucose homeostasis, Dr. Brüning's experimental approach focuses on the generation and characterization of mouse models with targeted disruption of genes in the leptin, insulin and cytokine signaling pathways. The work focuses on the characterization of signaling cascades initiated by insulin, leptin and cytokines in the hypothalamic regulation of energy homeostasis; and the interaction of insulin resistance and inflammatory processes in the development of atherosclerosis.
